Driving up or down the Stuart Hwy… when you see the sign post to Rainbow Valley don’t hesitate and turn your car and go there. The turn off (direction Qld :-) is not far to the north of Stuarts Well Roadhouse. I know there is a 4WD sign but if it has not rained for some time and your car is not a Ferrari you should have no problems getting there. We drove a Hyundai Trajet and had no trouble at all. Rainbow Valley is an amazing place and not overrun with tourists. There are many sign posted walking tracks around the dry lake and to the astonishing but fragile mountains. There are even covered BBQ places and a toilet. We staid there, slept in the car, for 2 days and only met one other person but many cheeky lizards. Definitely a must go and take care of place.

A beautiful drive into the park followed by and lovely camp site over looking the lake. We loved camping and being almost the only people there.

The road was a bit rough and sandy, and a 4WD or SUV would be suggested, but this is a great spot for an overnight stay. Fantastic views of the rock formations and well maintained camping and BBQ facilities.
